Notice of Your Rights and Protections Against Surprise Medical Bills
When These Protections Apply
Federal law protects patients from certain types of surprise medical bills. However, because Broadened Horizons Psychiatry does not provide emergency services or practice in hospital or surgical settings, those protections generally do not apply here.

What does apply is the Good Faith Estimate (GFE) requirement under the No Surprises Act:

-
You will receive a written estimate of expected costs (for example, intake and follow-up appointment fees) before services begin.
-
If you are billed $400 or more above that estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.
What is “Balance Billing”?
Balance billing (also called surprise billing) happens when you receive care from an out-of-network provider or facility and are billed for the difference between what your insurance pays and the full charge. This most often happens in emergency or hospital settings — not in outpatient telehealth practices like this one.
Good Faith Estimate (GFE)
If you are uninsured, or if you choose to self-pay (go out-of-network) for services, federal law requires that you receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before services begin.

Your Good Faith Estimate will:

-
Be provided in writing.
-
Include expected fees for intake and follow-up appointments.
-
Outline what you can expect to pay for your care.
-
Give you the right to dispute any bill that exceeds the estimate by $400 or more.
State-Specific Information
Kansas does not currently have additional balance billing protections beyond federal law.
